The Southeast Strawberry Expo heads to the Raleigh-Durham area from November 6-8, 2011. This year’s event will take place at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Durham. The Expo traditionally offers workshops, a farm tour, a trade show and educational sessions. Current and prospective strawberry producers throughout the Southeast will find sessions oriented towards their conditions and needs, and many opportunities for interaction with other growers.
Dr. Jeremy Pattison, Plants for Human Health Institute (PHHI) strawberry breeder, will present findings from the first-of-its-kind N.C. Strawberry Project on Monday afternoon, November 7. Leah Chester-Davis, PHHI director of communications, and Kristen Bright, PHHI communications assistant, will discuss the marketing outreach component of the project and share results from chef and consumer surveys focusing on strawberry preferences. Charles Safley, N.C. State professor and Extension economist, will provide insight into strawberry industry marketing. On Tuesday morning, November 8, Dr. Pattison will present “Advances in the N.C. Strawberry Breeding Program.”
