Dr. Thirumurugan is a medicinal chemist in Dr. Slavko Komarnytsky’s laboratory. His main focus is the synthesis of phenolics and their metabolites, isolation and characterization of bioactive molecules, and also cell culture study using different cell lines.

Prior to joining PHHI in 2017, Dr. Thirumurugan spent 14 years in pharma industry and academia. He developed a few preclinical candidates for the treatment of cancer, such as Histone Deacetylase 1 inhibitor. He also developed nutritional supplements, including chilitenoids from red chili and zealutein from marigold flower. He has expertise in design and synthesis of small molecules for the treatment of MetS and also multistep synthesis of macrolides and ketolides. He has authored more than 25 scientific publications.
