More information about Alessandra Pecorelli

Dr. Alessandra Pecorelli is a senior research scholar in the lab of Dr. Giuseppe Valacchi. Her primary research interests are in understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis and progression of redox- and inflammatory-related conditions with particular focus on neurodevelopmental disorders, including Rett syndrome and autism spectrum disorder. Her research aims to investigate how the crosstalk between the altered redox homeostasis (from endogenous and/or exogenous stressors) and inflammatory pathways can influence the physiopathological features of these patients. Currently, she is also involved in investigating the ways in which environmental pollutants such as ozone, particulate matter and cigarette smoke affect skin pathophysiological conditions (i.e. wound healing, psoriasis, eczema, atopic dermatitis, etc) by challenging the redox inflammatory networks. In addition, some projects have investigated the potential properties of phytochemicals in counteracting the previously mentioned altered processes by topical application and/or nutritional supplementation.
